19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of that year.
Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving approach and regular outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.
But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.
He saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
