Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
